Structured data

Definition

If data is structured, it is in a format that is simple to process, digest, search or analyze. Therefore, any file contained in a relational database is structured data, as is anything entered into an excel sheet – its predefined fields mean that all data is entered in a specific format. This need to predefine the fields so that data is in a universal, searchable format is why when signing up to an online service, booking airline tickets or placing an order, a customer is asked to enter their information into specific fields as part of a standardized form.
