Internet of things (IoT)

Definition

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network created by connecting potentially any electronic device, from motion sensors to coffee machines to the internet and to each other.

The growing popularity of connected devices, particularly as part of the smart home, is already removing friction from the customer journey within certain industries – think home delivery when ordering online – and is also opening the door to a number of new business models and opportunities. Meanwhile the new data streams that smart doorbells, cameras, thermostats and cars will soon be providing will translate into the greatest ever depth of customer understanding, which in turn will bring about truly personal levels of customer experience.
