Earth Day is observed on April 22nd each year with the aim of raising public awareness around the world to the challenges regarding the wellbeing of the planet and all the life it supports. According to the United Nations, Earth Day recognizes a collective responsibility, as called for in the 1992 Rio Declaration, to achieve a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations of humanity.

Environmental & Climate Literacy

The theme for 2017 is “Environmental & Climate Literacy” because education is the foundation for progress and we, as citizens of a global community, need to be aware of climate change and its unprecedented threat to our planet. We believe that all businesses should also bear the responsibility of affecting change.

At Sitel, we are committed to the concept of sustainable development, balancing the good of the wider global community, the protection of human health and the environment with the need for profitable growth of our operations, which in turn, positively affects the economy of local communities. Our strategy to foster environmentally sustainable growth for Sitel Group comprises two main areas: running efficient operations and working sustainably.

Sitel Group Corporate Social Responsibility

Although Sitel Group business activities, when compared to other industries, do not materially impact the environment, we still believe in being a responsible company, minimizing, wherever possible, negative effects on the community, environment and natural resources. This is part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility.

We recognize that employee travel, particularly commuting, is a significant contributor to our carbon emissions. By encouraging the adoption of available technologies, we are able to manage travel, even as we expand into new markets.

In fact, one of our fastest growing businesses is Work@Home, in which our employees are able to work directly from their home, dramatically reducing the need for travel and, consequently, their carbon emissions. We are also constantly looking for new opportunities to reduce demand and to be more efficient. This includes retrofit projects, facility management improvements, and employee education.
